Case Study Neutralization of Alkaline Wastewater

Equalization basin of a textile factory (weekly processing)

The wastewater of a textile factory is stored in a lying equalization tank for weekly equalization and simultaneous neutralization with flue gas. The flue gas is the off-gas from the heating system of the factory and therefore cost-free. The flue gas is transferred into the wastewater in the form of very fine bubbles. It is another advantage of this eco-friendly and cost-effective process that additional measurement and control devices are not required. Overdosing of carbon dioxide is obviously not possible. The pH of the wastewater is decreased to approx. 8.0.

Information

  • To follow the varying water level the FUCHS CENTROX Aerator for Flue Gas is mounted on a flotation. This leads to constantly high flue gas transfer even at varying filling levels.
  • The aerator is self-aspirating. Additonal blowers for the flue gas are not required.
  • Measurement and control devices are not necessary. The physical-chemical behaviour of "carbonic acid" prevents acidification of the wastewater. Below pH = 7.5 carbon dioxide is only minimally dissolved  and outgassed instead.
