Case Study Activated Sludge Plant

Replacement of rotors in an oxidation ditch 

An oxidation ditch in Germany was upgraded and its small design capacity extended from 1,000 e.p. up to 1,200 e.p. An existing problematic rotor was replaced by two FUCHS OXYSTAR Aerators and one FUCHS TURBOSTAR Mixer. After the upgrade the plant now basically consists of an operation building with screen, oxidation ditch, sedimentation tank and a small sludge holding tank.

Information

  • The OXYSTAR Aerators are installed on flotations, thus no additional bridges were required. The TURBOSTAR Mixer is mounted to the existing bridge with a suspension frame made of hot-dip galvanized steel.
  • To follow the varying oxygen demand during nitrifikation the aerators are operated intermittently by switching them on and off. For thorough mixing of the sewage sludge mixture one aerator is sufficient. 
  • During the anoxic denitrification phases only the TURBOSTAR Mixer is operated, the aerators remain switched off.
